FALLS VILLAGE — On Friday, July 14, the Falls Village Hunt Library was treated to a fascinating afternoon as local resident Shamu Sadeh and his ten-year old son Lev gave a presentation on jazz.

All profits event were donated to the Save Our Brass Foundation which teaches kids in New Orleans to play brass instruments.

A little trail magic on a hot afternoon

FALLS VILLAGE — Appalachian Trail hikers got a pleasant surprise Monday, July 17.

A woman who goes by the trail name of Firestarter set up a couple of tents in the parking area on Water Street next to the First Light power plant.

‘One and done’

FALLS VILLAGE — In the aftermath of a rain storm that delivered a whacking 5 inches of rain July 9 and 10, two soggy but cheerful Appalachian Trail hikers paused for a moment on the Amesville bridge over the swollen and discolored Housatonic River to chat with a reporter.

Eagle fledges on Housatonic

FALLS VILLAGE — On a wintery February day, a fellow birder and I took part in an event known as the Mega Bowl. The challenge for each team was to identify as many different species of birds as possible within a five mile radius of home.
