Reconnecting with Scottish roots

FALLS VILLAGE — In the summer of 2022 Jenny Law returned to her Scottish roots and hiked the entire West Highland Way from just outside Glasgow some 94 miles to Fort William.

Law told the story and showed copious photographs at the David M. Hunt Library on Friday, Sept. 22.

Hearing set for old firehouse

FALLS VILLAGE — There will be a public hearing on the sale of the former firehouse on Thursday, Sept. 28, 7 p.m. at the Senior Center.

The building at 35 Railroad St. served as the home of the Falls Village Volunteer Fire Department from 1924 until the opening of the Emergency Services Center on Route 7 in September 2017.

FALLS VILLAGE — Ellery “Woods” Sinclair led a Housatonic Heritage hike at the American chestnut grove on Undermountain Road in Falls Village on Sunday, Sept. 17. About 17 people attended, including Fred Baldwin, who prudently brought a folding chair.

Wild weaving at Hunt

FALLS VILLAGE   — An enthusiastic group of children learned how to weave on a v-shaped, maple branch frame with yarn, flowers and other natural materials at the David M. Hunt Library on Saturday, Sept. 9.

Group art show opens at Hunt Library

FALLS VILLAGE — A group art show, “This Must Be the Place: Artists’ Impressions of Home,’” opened with a reception at the David M. Hunt Library in Falls Village Saturday, Sept. 2.

Featured are several familiar, local names: Robert Cronin, Erika Crofut, Shaari Horowitz, John Hodgson, and Terre Lefferts, to name a few.
