EDC website goes live

WINSTED — A new website for the town’s Economic Development Commission has been set up at www.winstededc.org.The website was set up by John Bishop, owner of local website development company Browser Daily. At their special meeting held at Town Hall on Tuesday, March 6, members of the commission complimented Bishop’s work.“[Bishop] has been very proactive in creating the website on his own,” board member Susie Collier said. “He has taken pictures of the town to put up on the website to make it look attractive. A lot of the work he has done was not under the job description for the website.”The main page of the website includes two scrolling pictures of the town along with the slogans “All the charisma of a village, all the resources of a city,” and “A quaint New England town, a dynamic center of commerce.”The site’s resources section contains links to sites belonging to several organizations that assist businesses, including the state’s Small Business Association, the Northwest Connecticut Chamber of Commerce and Friends of Main Street. The site includes a placeholder for business listings, but the section is still under construction. The site utilizes the website www.loopnet.com to offer properties for sale and lease, and includes a calendar and a listing of commission members and their email addresses. A news section features articles from local newspapers. At the special meeting, Chairman Bill Pratt asked Bishop to keep all news articles on the website limited in scope.“I hate to sound self-serving, but I would like there to be only good news about the town on the website,” Pratt said. “Our bottom line on the website is to encourage people to bring their businesses to Winsted. There is enough negative news that comes out.”
