Connecticut State Police Troop B

The following information was provided by the Connecticut State Police at Troop B. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Van down embankment

Stephen Smulski, 51, of Torrington was driving north on Route 63 in Cornwall Feb. 7. At about 4:08 p.m., about .2 miles south of Route 43, his 2004 Chevrolet Express van went off the right side of the road. It went down an embankment. It came to an uncontrolled rest about 60 feet from the road. Smulski was taken to Sharon Hospital for evaluation. No enforcement was noted.

Rear-end crash

Stella Slater, 61, of Ancram, N.Y., was driving east on Route 44 in Salisbury Feb.11. At about 10:41 a.m., her 1999 Dodge Ram hit the rear of a 2000 Subaru Legacy driven by Chacha Lalvay, 40, of Millerton. Lalvay was stopped and attempting to turn left onto Ore Hill Road. There were no injuries to the drivers or passenger John Slater, 79, of Ancram. Slater was charged with following too closely.

Theft and drug charges

Two women were arrested Feb. 11 when they were apprehended as suspects in a North Canaan theft. Granite Avenue resident Grace Miller reported jewelry stolen from her home.

Tara McDougall, 24, of North Canaan was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of narcotics, possession of less than 4 ounces of marijuana and larceny. Amanda Miller, 23, of Sheffield was charged with possession of narcotics not in an original container, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of narcotics, possession of less than 4 ounces of marijuana and larceny. Bond was set at $15,000 each. They are to appear in Bantam Superior Court Feb. 27.

Rollover

Jose Pazmino-Cascante, 31, of North Canaan was driving west on Route 44 in Salisbury Feb. 11. At about 10:01 a.m., about .2 mile west of Taconic Road, he lost control. The 1999 Dodge Caravan crossed the road. It hit an embankment, spun and rolled onto the driver’s side. The driver and passengers Liliana Pazmino, 1, and Angelina Pazmino, 4, were not injured. The children were secured in child safety seats. Pazmino-Cascante was given a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
