Learn to Line Dance and do the Lindy Hop

Jacob’s Pillow in Becket, Mass., is offering a workshop with the New England Soul Line Dance Network on Sunday, July 10, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. It’s open to all ages and no experience is needed.

The New England Soul Line Dance Network believes Soul Line Dancing is empowering, evolving and inspiring, and can be performed with social distance.

This is the Pillow’s second Soul Line Dance Party, led this year by LaTondra Finley-Jones and Lenore Winston, and it is designed for every body and every dance ability. The music is R&B and hip-hop. Wear comfortable clothing to move in as well as shoes, sneakers or dance shoes. Be sure to bring your water bottle.

The week before, on July 3 from 10 to 11:30 a.m., there will be a Lindy Hop dance workshop, open to all experience levels and to ages 16 and up.

Born in Harlem’s African-American communities in the 1930s, the Lindy Hop is a timeless and popular form of partnered jazz dance danced all over the world.

Explore the basic steps, aesthetic values and technical elements in preparation for the social dance floor. No partner is necessary. Wear comfortable, supportive shoes.
