The following information was provided by the police agencies. All suspects are considered innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

Speeding plus warrant

Friday, Aug. 26, at 7:54 p.m., Columbia County Sheriff’s Sergeant Michael Merante arrested 46-year-old Wesley Waite of Connelly Road, Hillsdale, following a traffic stop on the Taconic State Parkway. Waite was ticketed for speeding and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree and was also taken into custody on an outstanding Dutchess County Family Court Warrant. Waite will answer his local charges in the Austerlitz Town Court Wednesday,  Sept. 28. Merante turned Waite over to Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office for further action on the arrest warrant.

Bad check

Wednesday, Aug. 24, at 1:24 p.m., Columbia County Deputy Sheriff David Proper arrested 41-year-old Laura Campbell of Route 23, Copake, on a charge of issuing a bad check. Campbell had reportedly issued a check in the amount of $300 to Hillsdale Repairs without sufficient funds to cover it on Friday, July 1.  

The Hillsdale woman was issued an appearance ticket; she was scheduled to answer to the charge in the Hillsdale Town Court on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 6 p.m.

On Tuesday, April 9, The Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie was the setting for a talk between Elizabeth Lesser and Anne Lamott, with the focus on Lamott’s newest book, “Somehow: Thoughts on Love.”

A best-selling novelist, Lamott shared her thoughts about the book, about life’s learning experiences, as well as laughs with the audience. Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
