Columbia County Police Report 1-26-12

The following information was provided by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office. All suspects are considered innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

Drugs and driving

Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, at 3:52 p.m., Columbia County Deputy Sheriff Heath Benansky arrested Joseph Schaniel, 31, of Connelly Road, Hillsdale, following a traffic stop on Twin Bridges Road in the town of Copake. Schaniel was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, speed in zone, consuming an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle and unregistered motor vehicle.

Schaniel was scheduled to answer the charges in the Copake Town Court Monday, Jan. 9, at 7 p.m.

Warrant arrest

Tuesday, Dec. 27, at 3:45 p.m., Columbia County Sheriff’s Sergeant John DeRocha took custody of Siddhartha Dillon, 24, of VanKleeck Avenue, New Paltz, who was arrested by officers of the New Paltz Police Department on a warrant of arrest from the Hillsdale Town Court. Dillon failed to appear in court when issued tickets by Deputy Sheriff Kris Bauhoff earlier in 2010 on the misdemeanor charge of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle third degree as well as other New York state vehicle and traffic law violations.  

Arraigned by Claverack Town Justice Michael Brandon, Dillon was remanded to the county jail in lieu of $250 cash or $500 bail bond.  He was directed to appear in the Hillsdale Town Court at a later date.

Water main cleaning in North Canaan

NORTH CANAAN – Aquarion Water Company today announced a water main cleaning project in the company’s North Canaan system. Tuning up two passions under one roof

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
