Automobile accident on Route 41 in Sharon

SHARON — At approximately 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan.3, a car driven by William Riley, 82, of Sharon, was exiting the Sharon Shopping Plaza parking lot to turn left (north) onto Route 41 when it was struck by a truck traveling southbound on the road.According to one witness, Christina Smith of North Canaan, Riley’s car started to pull out of the shopping plaza parking lot to make a left turn to go northbound on Route 41. A truck, which Smith said did not appear to be speeding, was too close to stop and collided with the exiting automobile. A State Police report said Riley’s automobile pulled out of the parking lot in front of the southbound truck, causing the truck to collide with the car. The driver of the truck, John Kuhn of Sheffield, Mass., was not injured. Riley sustained a broken rib, cuts and scrapes and was transported to Sharon Hospital by the Sharon Volunteer Ambulance Squad.“The impact spun the car around. The air bag opened and appeared to fling the driver out of the car onto the road, just as the car was pushed up on the lawn,” Smith said.Sharon resident Michael Gordon, whose Jeep was parked in the parking lot in the row of vehicles facing the grass near the road, also witnessed a portion of the accident.“I was returning to my Jeep from the store when I saw the car come up on the lawn, scrape the fender of the car next to mine and come to a stop about a foot from my car. It looked like the damaged car would crash into mine,” Gordon said, noting it stopped just short of his vehicle.According to the police report, Kuhn was wearing a shoulder and lap seat belt at the time of the accident, while Riley was not. Riley was issued an infraction by the State Police for failure to grant right of way to oncoming traffic when making a left-hand turn.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
