Anita R. Stevens

GREAT BARRINGTON — Anita R. (Schneider) Stevens, 64, of Greenfield, Mass., died March 10, 2010, at Baystate Franklin Medical Center. She leaves her husband of 17 years, Alfred J. Stevens.

She was born in Great Barrington on Aug. 8, 1945, the daughter of Elinore (Davis) and Ernest Schneider. She graduated from Housatonic High School in 1963 and was a graduate of the former Henry W. Bishop Memorial School of Nursing in Groton, Conn. She had been a resident of Greenfield since 1984.

Anita was a registered nurse for Dr. Riggi in Brattleboro, Vt., retiring in 2008. Previously, she was employed by Associated Surgeons of Greenfield for Dr. Fusonie for 23 years. Also, she had been a private nurse for Norman Rockwell.

She was an avid bowler and was a member of the Women’s Bowling Assoc. of Brattleboro.

Anita loved traveling and spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed dancing, playing cards and Scrabble.

In addition to her husband, her survivors include two sons, Timothy C. Connelly of Billerica, Mass., and Christopher T. Connelly of West Springfield, Mass.; a daughter, Faith R. Connelly of Florida; two brothers, Steven Schneider of Conway, Mass., and Thomas Schneider of Pittsfield; three stepsons, James A. Stevens of Colrain, Mass., and Richard A. Stevens and Jason B. Stevens, both of Turners Falls, Mass.; a stepdaughter, Anne E. Frost of the Philippines; eight grandchildren, Liam, Campbell, Keira, Crystal, Kody, Andrew, Kai and Abby; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Alan Schneider.

Funeral services will be private and burial will be at the convenience of the family. The Kostanski Funeral Home in Greenfield has care of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Massachusetts, 393 Maple St., Springfield, MA 01105.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”

Cabaret comes to St. Andrew's in Kent

Music in the Nave will again tap into local talent April 6 at 7 p.m. when its features George Potts in an intimate cabaret concert in the St. Andrew’s Church parish house.

Pott is a well-known figure in the community, both through his presence in the perennially popular Fife ‘n Drum, the restaurant started by his father-in-law, renowned pianist Dolph Trayman, and through his own career as a folk musician.
