Afro-Brazilian dance
December 1, 2011
SOAR, the privately-funded after-school enrichment program at Salisbury Central School, hosted an all-school assembly featuring Ginga Brasileira, a professional ensemble of dancers and percussionists originating from Brazil. Using rhythmic music, high-energy gymnastics and martial arts, they performed Afro-Brazilian dances that included capoeira, a martial art dance developed in Brazil by 16th century slaves; and maculele, a stick dance created by African slaves.
