Patricia ‘Patty’ Ruth (Strattman) Nash

WINSTED — Patricia “Patty” Ruth (Strattman) Nash, 61, wife of David A, Nash of Winsted, died at home Aug. 2, 2019, surrounded by her loving family, after a long illness. 

Patty was born Dec. 24, 1957, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to Irving Samuel and Anne Francis(Hall) Strattman, but was raised by her loving grandparents, Harold B. and Mary E. Strattman in East Canaan. She graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School in 1975.

John Gibson Hazard

 LAKEVILLE — John Gibson Hazard died July 14, 2019, at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.  He was 77 years old.

He is survived by his wife, Jan Hazard, of New York.

John was born in Washington, D.C.,on June 19, 1942, the oldest son of John N. Hazard, Nash Professor of Law at Columbia University School of Law; and Susan Lawrence Hazard. 

Christopher Lenfest Armstrong

KENT — Christopher Lenfest Armstrong died in July 2019.

Christopher was born May 27, 1967, in Lewisburg, Pa.  From the time he was 4 years old, he lived on a farm in Unityville, Pa.  He grew up with a little sister, a wonderful collie dog, a 3/4-acre pond for swimming and skating, an ancient Amish work horse and sheep and chickens.  

Jon Henry Morey

AMENIA — Jon Henry Morey, 51, a lifelong area resident, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2019, in Sharon. 

Jon was a mason contractor who owned and operated Stone Structures in Amenia for 30 years. 

Born on July 15, 1968, in Sharon, he was the son of the late George Morey and Susan Disbrow.  

Jon was an avid hunter and fisherman who had a love for deep sea fishing. Jon was known for his “No Fear” extremist hobbies and was well-known as an amazing motocross competitor. He also enjoyed traveling.

Noella Riva Spurdle

NORTH CANAAN — Noella Riva Spurdle passed away on June 21, 2019, after a brief illness. She  was 88 years old. She was the widow of Sonny Riva.

Noella was born Sept. 8, 1930, to Albert G. Margolis and Adela  Royer. 

She was a long-time resident of North Canaan and worked at Lindell Fuels for more than 50 years before retiring in 2015.

Vera (Kassman) Tilson

LAKEVILLE — Vera (Kassman) Tilson, 94, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother died June 24, 2019, at Goodwin House in Falls Church, Va.  

Born Aug. 2, 1924, in Brookline, Mass., to Nicholai and Luba Kassman, she outlived her parents and siblings, Eugene Kassman and Elly (Kassman) Meyer, by many years.  

She is  remembered as a vigorous, loving person who deeply cherished friendships and family.

Benjamin Lucas Paley

SHARON — Benjamin Lucas Paley, 26, died unexpectedly last week from a heart condition.  Ben was the son of Charles Paley of Sharon and Crispina ffrench of Becket, Mass., and the grandson of Emma Paley of Sharon and the late Morris Paley.

Philip Shaffer Truax

SHARON — Philip Shaffer Truax passed away at Yale New Haven Hospital on July 28, 2019.

Philip was born in New York City on March 14, 1955, but he grew up in Newport Beach, Calif. It was there, in confirmation class at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, that he met Heidi Mildred Lorenz. They were married in 1974 and went to study together at UC Santa Barbara.

While living there, Philip and Heidi built an A-frame home by hand, in the hills above Santa Barbara.

Norma Bartholomew

LAKEVILLE —  The family of Norma Bartholomew sadly announced her unexpected passing on Saturday July 27, 2019, at her home in Lakeville. She was 88.  

A dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, Norma and her husband, Russell, retired to Lakeville 25 years ago to be closer to their young family, and spent many happy days with their grandchildren, Bryan, John, Mark and Stephen. 

Carol Chase

KENT — Carol Chase, 76, a 41-year resident of Kent, died peacefully on July 27, 2019, at Sharon Health Care Center. 

Mrs. Chase worked as a mental hygiene therapy aide for the Wassaic Developmental Center. She retired as a supervisor following a 30-year career with New York state. She worked on the campus at Wassaic for many years and supervised many of the community residences later in her career.

Born June 7, 1943, in Peekskill, N.Y., she was daughter of the late Ruth Jessie (Brown) and Adam Henry Snyder.
