Girls basketball, ice hockey fight hard to finish season

Last week saw the winter season for Housatonic Valley Regional High School sports come to an end. 
Girls basketball started the week off with a historic win against No. 26 Weaver at home on Tuesday, March 7. Chloe Dakers led the team in points with 16 (three 3-point baskets) followed by Emily Geyselaers (14 points and two 3-point baskets), Olivia Forstmann (12 points), and Amanda Jacquier (10 points and one 3-point basket).

Ice hockey team going to tourney

The Housatonic Valley Regional High School ice hockey team started the last week of the regular season by bringing home the Berkshire Cup on Monday, Feb. 27. 
The Berkshire Cup, started in 1991, is the trophy given to the winning team of the last game between the only Berkshire League ice hockey teams: Shepaug and Housatonic.  
Housatonic won, 4-0, with goals from Finn Bambery (2), Justin Gomez (1) and Jacob Burcroff (1). Goalie Nick Swanson was awarded the shut out.

Basketball season ends

FALLS VILLAGE — The Housatonic Valley Regional High School boys basketball team has finished its season. The Varsity squad lost to Terryville, 67-57, on Wednesday, Feb. 22. Kayo Wiggins led the team in points with 16, followed by Michael Peirce (9) and brothers Jacob and Caleb Shpur (6 each). 
The team celebrated Senior Night on Thursday, Feb. 23. Senior Jacob Shpur netted the game-high points total with 10, followed by Kayo Wiggins and senior Jacob Johnson (7 each) in the 65-39 loss to Gilbert.

Winter season slowly comes to close

The Housatonic Valley Regional High School Alpine ski team competed in one of their last races on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Catamount. The team finished third with Alex Vernali, Calvin O’Connor and Molly Dowd finishing in the top 12. The team finished third in the BHSL League Championships held on Feb. 15 at Butternut. Dowd finished first in the Giant Slalom and second in Slalom for the girls.

Wins in ice hockey, varsity girls and JV boys b-ball

Housatonic ice hockey started the week off with an overtime win, 3-2, on Wednesday, Feb. 1, against the Redhawks at Norwich Free Academy. Connor Toffey and Anthony Robarge scored during regular time, with Finn Bambery scoring the winning goal in OT. 
In wrestling, Will Fallon won by forfeit against St. Paul. 
The ski team finished second overall in the slalom race at Catamount. Alex Vernali placed in the top 10, with Jack Wayne and Calvin O’Connor placing in the top 15. Molly Dowd finished second among female racers.
