CORNWALL — Demographic change is nothing new in Cornwall, argued Hamish Lutris, a professor at Capital Community College in Hartford.

And change is coming again, in the form of immigration and agriculture.

Lutris delivered the Norman Dorsen Lecture for the Cornwall Historical Society at Town Hall on Sunday, April 28.

Lutris said Cornwall was settled in 1731, and by 1775 had 1,000 inhabitants, who mostly practiced what is known as “dirt farming” — crops and a few animals — and lived a hand-to-mouth existence.
