Josephine Caroline (Kjellquist) Barker

NORFOLK — Josephine Caroline (Kjellquist) Barker, 96, formerly of Norfolk, died Feb. 16, 2013, at her home on Pine Hill Boulevard in Plymouth, Conn.

Josephine was born Feb. 8, 1917, in Hartford, the daughter of the late Hilda (Johnson) and Fritz Kjellquist. She grew up in Bloomfield, and graduated from Bloomfield High School, class of 1934. She attended Baypath College in Massachusetts and worked for the Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford from 1936 until 1944.

In the 1970s she worked for Worth’s department store in Torrington.

Janet (Lewis) Spence Stiewing

FALLS VILLAGE — Janet (Lewis) Spence Stiewing, 89, passed away peacefully at Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Feb. 14, 2013.

Janet was born Oct. 25, 1923, in Bridgeport, Conn., to the late Grace (Smith) and Otis P. Lewis. She raised her family in Newtown, Conn., and retired to Falls Village in 1986.

She graduated from Bryant College then enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where she worked as an aviation machinist.

Joseph Pierre St. Martin Jr.

SHARON — Joseph Pierre St. Martin Jr. passed away peacefully on Feb. 14, 2013, at the age of 80. He is survived by two of his daughters, Susan Adler and Peggy Nesselroad; four grandchildren, Benjamin and Elyse Adler, Mark Nesselroad and Erica Medved; and one great-grandson, Logan Nesselroad.

He was predeceased by his wife, Dagmar; and eldest daughter, Anita.

Pierre, as he was most commonly known, was a lifelong resident of Sharon. He and his father, “Pete,” worked together as barbers at Pete’s Barber
Shop on West Main Street across from the Sharon firehouse.

Charles H. Schultz Jr.

PINE PLAINS — Charles H. Schultz Jr., 74, a resident of Pine Plains, died Feb. 18, 2013, at Noble Horizons in Salisbury.

He was born Feb. 28, 1938, in Bronx, N.Y., the son of the late Mary (Woods) and Charles Schultz.

He was a graduate of Pine Plains High School; and received his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Delhi in 1958.

On Dec. 12, 1959, in Fort Hood, Texas, he married Edna F. Beal. Mrs. Schultz survives him at home.

Marion Sisson Hayner

NORTH CANAAN — Marion Sisson Hayner, 92, of New High Street, passed away peacefully at her home on Feb. 13, 2013. She was the widow of Millard J. Hayner Jr.

Marion worked for General Electric, the West Hartford Police Department and Kelly Girls and was a district sales manager for Avon Cosmetics.

Marion’s first Sunday school teaching position was at the Second English Lutheran Church. As a past president of the Sarah Whitman Hooker Chapter of the DAR, Marion was proud of the society’s support of active military and veterans in times of war and peace.

Roland H. Fenn

SHARON — Roland H. Fenn, 73, a lifelong area resident, died Feb. 12, 2013, at Noble Horizons. Mr. Fenn was a therapy aide at the Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center in Wingdale, N.Y., from 1962 to 1992, and at the Wassaic Developmental Center from 1992 to1994. In addition to his employment with New York state, Mr. Fenn was an on-air radio deejay for several area radio stations.

He was born May 18, 1939, in Sharon, the son of the late Dorothy (Plass) and Robert P. Fenn.

Louise W. Carter

SALISBURY — Louise W. Carter, 94, of Salisbury, passed away Feb. 11, 2013, at Gardenside Lodge at Geer Village in North Canaan, where she had been a resident for three years. Louise was born in Denver, Colo., on Nov. 29, 1918, the first-born of the late Helen (Wylie) and Raymond H. White.

She was a graduate of Torrington High School and the Danbury School of Nursing, and was married to the late Lawson Averell Carter Jr.

A resident of the Salisbury-Lakeville area for 52 years, she was active in the community and St. John’s Episcopal Church and semi-active in nursing.

Robert Earl Annis

AMENIA — Robert Earl Annis, 73, a 44-year resident of Amenia, previously of Wisconsin, died Feb. 6, 2013, at Sharon Hospital. Mr. Annis was a self-employed bovine chiropodist for local dairy farms for more than 30 years. Mr. Annis also served his country honorably in the United States Navy.

He was born June 2, 1939, in Montpelier, Vt., the son of the late Evelyn C. (Martin) and William A. Annis. He attended Waterbury schools.

John F. Arcelaschi, Sr., 76, of Winsted, died Feb. 5, 2013. Calling hours were held Feb. 8. Funeral services were held Feb. 9 at St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in Forest View Cemetery in the spring. Maloney Funeral Home has care of arrangements.

Benjamin A. Warner, of Barkhamsted, died Feb. 5, 2013. Calling hours were held Feb. 10. Funeral services with Full Military Honors were held Feb. 11 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Montano-Shea Funeral Home, New Hartford, has care of arrangements.
