50 years ago — November 1969

The current issue of House Beautiful’s Home Remodeling magazine contains an interesting illustrated feature on the renovation of the Kent Main Street home of William Corrigan and Robert Darden. The article’s title is “A Chequered Past Becomes An Asset.”

 

For the first time in over a half century of driving, Joseph Peavoy, 88, of North Main Street, Sharon, found himself in court facing a charge of failure to drive in an established lane. Judge John J. Casale, after hearing the case in the Salisbury Circuit Court last Thursday, nolled the charge so Mr. Peavoy still has his unblemished record as a driver. Sand on the road was responsible for the charge when Mr. Peavoy pulled over too far to avoid an oncoming car and skidded on the sand.

Mr. and Mrs. C. Stanley Sherwood of Salisbury will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary this weekend with a dinner in their honor Saturday night at the White Hart Inn and an open house for friends and relatives at their home on Sunday afternoon.

 

25 years ago — November 1994

CANAAN — A pilot forced to make an emergency landing at Canaan Airport last weekend escaped with minor injuries after her plane crashed onto a hangar roof. Laurie Hammond, 24, of 85 Twin Lakes Road in Salisbury, was flying solo in an ultra light plane Sunday afternoon. Unconfirmed reports said that she was practicing landing. Ms. Hammond was transported to Sharon Hospital by North Canaan Ambulance where she was treated for minor injuries and released.
