Hannah Taylor

NORTH CANAAN — Hannah Taylor, 32, passed away peacefully at her home in Winthrop, Mass., on March 7, 2012. Hannah was never daunted in her courageous seven-year battle with a brain tumor, simply refusing to be sick. She was born in Cambridge, Mass., on May 29, 1979. She graduated from Northwestern High School in Barkhamsted, Conn., in 1997 and earned a bachelor’s degree in business and marketing from Drexel University in 2002 where she was a member of the Phi Mu chapter. Hannah pursued a career in marketing as a senior account manager at Spry International in Newtonville, Mass. She was an enthusiastic member of The Junior League of Boston since 2007, including serving as a provisional advisor in a mentoring role for new members.Hannah loved pottery, fitness, Christmas, UConn basketball and her dogs. She enjoyed a confident sense of style. Hannah valued friendship, honesty, competitiveness and above all else, her family.Hannah is survived by her beloved partner and soul mate, Christopher Aden of Winthrop; her grandfather, Bill MacDonald of Buzzards Bay, Mass.; her parents, Jeanne and David Taylor of North Canaan; her sister, Chandra Ring and her husband, Kevin, of Hudson, Ohio; her brothers, Greg and his wife, Keri, of Holden, Mass., Nathan of Vernon, Conn., and Dylan and his fiancee, Caity McGrath, of South Boston, Mass.; her nieces, Natasha, Lauren and Juliette; her nephews, Ryan, Matthew and James; and Grace Mulqueen of Naples, Fla., a longtime companion of her late grandfather, Gordon Taylor. A memorial service was held March 10 at the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home in Winthrop. Donations in Hannah’s memory may be sent to Adult Brain Tumors at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.

The Cornwall Library unveiled its latest art exhibition, “Live It Up!,” showcasing the work of the late West Cornwall resident Joelle Sander on Saturday, April 13. The twenty works on canvas on display were curated in partnership with the library with the help of her son, Jason Sander, from the collection of paintings she left behind to him. Clearly enamored with nature in all its seasons, Sander, who split time between her home in New York City and her country house in Litchfield County, took inspiration from the distinctive white bark trunks of the area’s many birch trees, the swirling snow of Connecticut’s wintery woods, and even the scenic view of the Audubon in Sharon. The sole painting to depict fauna is a melancholy near-abstract outline of a cow, rootless in a miasma haze of plum and Persian blue paint. Her most prominently displayed painting, “Flowers,” effectively builds up layers of paint so that her flurry of petals takes on a three-dimensional texture in their rough application, reminiscent of another Cornwall artist, Don Bracken.

A Seder to savor in Sheffield

On April 23, Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will host “Feast of Mystics,” a Passover Seder that promises to provide ecstasy for the senses.

“’The Feast of Mystics’ was a title we used for events back when I was running The New Shul,” said Rabbi Zach Fredman of his time at the independent creative community in the West Village in New York City.
