All signs point to lower speed limit needed on Winchell Mtn. Road


NORTH EAST — Winchell Mountain Road is undeniably beautiful. Its mountaintop scenic view makes for a lovely country drive — with one exception: The road has increasingly become a speedway for cars and trucks making their way back and forth from Route 22 to Route 199. 

Winchell Mountain Road (Dutchess County Route 60) is a popular shortcut between the two state roads, but it’s not without its risks, especially in the winter time. The steep and winding road makes for fast driving, and neighbors say it’s putting them in harm’s way.
