A soggy but satisfying kickoff to football season

There we were, on Sunday, Aug. 18, placidly eating Kelly Roger’s killer dip and waiting on the hot dogs in the parking lot at MetLife Stadium, when some ominous clouds started to form to the south.

The occasion was the Green and White Scrimmage, a rather grand name for an open practice by the New York Jets.

These things used to happen at Hofstra University, and more recently Rutgers, but under the new regime of head coach Adam Gase, the scrimmage was at the home field.
