Holiday traffic violations sharply lower this year

Speeding violations were sharply reduced and there were no fatal accidents in the state for Thanksgiving weekend, according to a report issued Monday by Connecticut State Police, which stepped up enforcement of traffic laws for the holiday weekend.There were just 482 speeding tickets issued last weekend, compared with last year’s total of 2,255, Lt. J. Paul Vance said in a press release. Hazardous moving violations were also markedly fewer, totaling 1,020, compared with last year’s total of 3,411. Arrests for driving under the influence (DUI) decreased dramatically, from 80 to 22.Seatbelt violations totaled 189, slightly more than last year’s total of 151.Of 228 reported accidents this year, 23 included injuries, Vance said. Last year there were 391 accidents with 57 injuries and one fatality.Troopers focused their efforts on enforcing drunk driving laws and targeting aggressive drivers. Sobriety checkpoints and DUI patrols were in place throughout the weekend.

A best-selling novelist, Lamott shared her thoughts about the book, about life’s learning experiences, as well as laughs with the audience. Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
