Letters to the Editor - Millerton News- 5-2-19

Thanks to the community

I’d like to thank all the community residents from the towns of Amenia, North East/Millerton and Pine Plains, county and town officials and interested individuals who attended the North East Community Center’s (NECC) 2nd Annual Community Conversations event on April 12. More than 120 people attended the event that is just the beginning of our challenge to address the need for a more robust approach to housing shortages for our local workforce, affordable rents and opportunities for home ownership.

This is just the beginning! We will continue to work with Hudson River Housing (HRH) — who facilitated the workshop (and that obtained the grant from the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation) — to hold work sessions over the next few months with representatives from the three municipalities to implement some of the recommendations gleaned from the forum.

We welcome anyone who is interested to contact us with ideas suggestions or to attend upcoming workshops.

To contact us at NECC or HRH, go to www.neccmillerton.org or call 518-789-4259 for more details.

Executive Director, NECC

Breakfast was served

On Sunday, April 28, the Amenia Fire Company held its monthly pancake breakfast. We were pleased to have a nice crowd of 189 people in attendance to enjoy a delicious meal.

We rely on the breakfast for raising money to assist in the day-to-day operation of our department and we always appreciate the support of the community.

Our thanks to all who attend our meals throughout the year and we hope to see you in the fall.
