Local horse-lover adds flair to national equestrian magazine

MILLBROOK — Jeanne Chisholm, who first gained local recognition when she opened an art gallery in Pine Plains, has recently joined on as a contributing editor for a new glossy magazine called Equine Flair.The magazine, which will be launched in January 2012, is a monthly publication that will focus on the lifestyle of equestrians.“Luxury is an art, not a trend,” declares the magazine’s tag line.The magazine content will include items from all areas of life that will appeal to the equestrian, from home decorating and fashion to travel destinations and real estate.“No other magazine addresses universally the lifestyle of the equestrian,” said Chisholm.It will be distributed for free at national horse shows, equestrian facilities, trade shows, horse-related boutiques and select international events.Chisholm, who has experience writing for other equestrian-themed publications during her 30-year journalism career, said her love for horses has been growing since her childhood.“I’ve always been in love with them,” she said. “I’m absolutely enchanted by their beauty and athleticism. It’s almost an addiction.”Chisholm currently lives on a horse farm and runs Millbrook’s Chisholm Gallery (formerly of Pine Plains), which specializes in sporting art, but also includes Dutchess County landscapes, portraits and photography.Chisholm said she looks forward to contributing information about exceptional cultural equestrian items to the magazine.For more information about the magazine, visit www.equine flair.us.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
