Nancy Marie Boyles

LAKEVILLE — Nancy Marie Boyles, 72, passed away March 5, 2019, at home with her family by her side.

She was born to the late Nelson Abraham Slater and Eva Mae Macfarlane on Oct. 5, 1946, in Johnson City, N.Y.

Nancy obtained her CNA license and went on to become certified as a Geriatric Nurses Aid as well. Nancy joined the Salisbury Volunteer Ambulance Service and loved it so much she became a CPR instructor. Her love of helping others did not stop there. When her youngest child was in high school, she went on to obtain her nursing degree.  She retained that strong nurse attitude right up until the end.

Nancy married Larry Boyles in 1965, and they lived together in Lakeville until they divorced 42 years later and Nancy relocated to Torrington.

She is  survived by her sisters, Cassandra Pax and her husband, Milton, of Texas and Merle Shanahan of East Hartford; her brother, Francis Macfarlane and his wife, Helen, of South Carolina; her children, Tammie Mutch and her husband, Michael, of Torrington and Matthew Boyles and his wife, Danielle, of Kentucky; and her four grandchildren, Christopher Gardell of California, Antonia Boyles, of Kentucky and Myles and Molly Fodiman of Torrington.

Nancy was predeceased by her brother, Nelson Slater; and by her daughter, Lorraine Gardell.

Nancy enjoyed going to the Sullivan Senior Center, especially to play bingo with her friends. She also enjoyed singing with the Bells and Bows and going on bus trips.

Another of Nancy’s passions was creating jewelry and selling it at craft fairs with her daughter and granddaughter.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the United Congregational Church in Torrington on Saturday, March 16, at noon.
