State trash regs will not affect North Canaan

NORTH CANAAN — New state regulations that could force some towns to reduce solid waste by 10 percent by 2024 will not apply to North Canaan, according to a report heard at the Board of Selectmen’s meeting on Monday, Feb. 4.

In a report to the selectmen, transfer station Manager Dinnie Light said that the state has developed a Comprehensive Materials Management Strategy, forcing towns to implement initiatives that could include a payment system for discarding trash, known popularly as “pay as you throw.”
