Journalism matters, and it’s fun

SHARON — In 2018, journalists were among the many groups that were targeted across the nation for hate crimes. A particularly low point was the murder of five reporters in the newsroom of the Capital Gazette, a newspaper in Maryland, at the end of June. 

On the Sunday after the shooting, Harry Smith did a moving “essay” on the NBC show Sunday Today with Willie Geist about small-town newspapers and the important contribution they make to their communities. It included images and mentions of The Lakeville Journal and The Millerton News.
