Thief uses town of Pine Plains’ bank account to write fake checks


PINE PLAINS — Town Supervisor Darrah Cloud announced at the Thursday, Dec. 20, Town Board meeting that someone “stole either a vendor check or a pay stub, which somehow got in the wrong hands.”

The town checking number was then used to make copies of fake checks at a Staples, or another office supply store, in Poughkeepsie. Since then, the thief wrote checks that falsely stated they were coming from the town of Pine Plains’ coffers.
