Millerhurst blaze recalls 1985’s Belter fire

The photo of Garwood Belter, above, and others of the Belter Brothers farm were taken in 1941 for an article in PM magazine about all the things worth fighting for in World War II. The article was written by a young Charlotte Hall, who later married and became Charlotte Reid. Reid was not only a writer and reporter for The Lakeville Journal for many years; she was also one of the longest-serving first selectmen in the history of the town of Salisbury. SALISBURY — It wasn’t only Dutchess County residents who were stunned and saddened by the early evening fire on Oct. 14 that destroyed two dairy barns and killed 46 cows at Mike and Emily Miller’s Millerhurst Farm in Ancramdale.
Northwest Corner residents who heard about the fire spread the news, posted photos on social media and visited the www.gofundme.com page for the fire, sharing support and money to help the farmers rebuild after the electrical fire.
