WEBUTUCK — The fourth annual Memorial Golf Tournament in honor of Webutuck alum Thomas J. Berlinghoff will be held on Friday, July 29. The tournament is to raise money for a scholarship that is awarded to a Webutuck student in good academic standing who is interested in continuing their sports involvement in college.Thomas J. Berlinghoff, who died suddenly of a brain aneurism at the age of 23, was an avid sportsman.The four-man scramble golf tournament will be held at the James Baird State Park Golf Course in Pleasant Valley.The fee per golfer is $110, which includes entry into the tournament, 18 holes of golf, a cart, lunch, dinner, drinks and awards. The tournament begins at 7 a.m.There will be bus transportation to the golf course.The pickups will be at 5:45 a.m. at Freshtown in Amenia, at 6 a.m. at Associated Lightning Rod on Route 22 in Millerton and at 6:15 a.m. at Berlinghoff Electrical in Pine Plains.For more information or to enter the tournament, contact Kathy Berlinghoff at 914-456-6216. The entry deadline is July 15.Previous fundraisers have helped erect a scoreboard at the Webutuck soccer field, where Berlinghoff used to play.Anyone wishing to make a tax-deductable donation toward the Thomas J. Berlinghoff scholarship may contact the Webutuck Central School District and the Webutuck Funds for Educational Excellence (also known as WFFEE) at 174 Haight Road, Amenia, NY 12501. Make a note in the memo line of the check that the donation is for the Thomas Berlinghoff Memorial Scholarship.

On Tuesday, April 9, The Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie was the setting for a talk between Elizabeth Lesser and Anne Lamott, with the focus on Lamott’s newest book, “Somehow: Thoughts on Love.”

A best-selling novelist, Lamott shared her thoughts about the book, about life’s learning experiences, as well as laughs with the audience. Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
