Gustav Haller Jr.

CORNWALL BRIDGE —Gustav Haller Jr., 86, died Sept. 25, 2018, at Candlewood Valley Health Care Center in New Milford. 

Gustav was born March 28, 1932, in Greenwich, Conn., the son of the late Ida (Lind) and Gustav Haller Sr. 

After graduating high school, Gustav served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the USS Oriskany aircraft carrier. He was a stationary engineer for the Taconic DDSO for many years. He was a Master Mason for many years and was a longtime member and past commander of the VFW Post 9856. 

He also was a permanent fixture at the Cornwall Country Market, always wanting to strike up conversations with anyone who would listen.

He is survived by a brother, John; his wife, Margaret; his nieces, Deborah Picchione and her husband, Dominick, and Susan Haller Larson and her husband, Peter Larson; and his great-nephews, Dominick III, Anthony Picchione and Kyle Larson.

Calling hours will be held at the Kenny Funeral Home in Sharon on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 10 a.m., with a Masonic service at 11 a.m. 

Burial will follow with full military honors at the Cornwall Cemetery.
