John Austin Flint

LAGRANGEVILLE, N.Y. — John Austin Flint, 78, passed away on the morning of Sept. 18, 2018, at the Grand Nursing Home in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

John was born with cerebral palsy and lived with his parents, Gilbert A. Flint and Catherine W. Bockée Flint, on Flint Hill Farm in Amenia until the death of his mother in 1965, when he then became institutionalized at Wassaic State School.

He later became a resident of ICF Payne House. The staff at Payne House provided professional and loving care for many years; special thanks go to his most recent nurse, Heather. 

John is survived by his brother, Philip L. Flint of Pompano Beach, Fla.; his favorite niece, Louise Schullery Cox of Windsor Locks, Conn.; his cousin, Nancy Greer of Millbrook; many nieces, nephews, cousins; and one of his legal guardians, Leonard H. Smith.

Burial will be in Smithfield Cemetery at a later date.
