BARKHAMSTED — The Sears Hometown Store in the Mallory Brook Plaza in Barkhamsted near the Winsted border will close on Sunday, July 1. The store’s owner said he is leaving because the shopping plaza is in such bad shape.

The store opened in 1997 and has had several owners through the years.

It was originally opened by Bill Baer in 1997 then purchased by Farley Hubbard in 2013.

The store’s current owner, Dann Allain, purchased the store in June 2017.
