Janet Marie Mahar

AMENIA — Janet Marie Mahar, 71, a longtime resident of Amenia, passed away on May 26, 2018, at Sharon Hospital. 

Mrs. Mahar was a caring registered nurse at several state institutions throughout the Hudson Valley including the Wassaic Developmental Center, Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center and the Hudson River Psychiatric Center, retiring in 2001. 

Mrs. Mahar also worked at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. 

Born on July 5, 1946, in Utica, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Doris (Smith) and Norman Seemann. 

On Nov. 25, 1967, in Whitesboro, N.Y., she married William Mahar, who survives at home. 

Mrs. Mahar was a Sunday school teacher and a longtime parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church in Amenia. Mrs. Mahar was like a mother to many. She was a loving women who opened her arms to many more than just her own children. 

In addition to her loving husband, Mrs. Mahar is survived by her children, Marla Perkins and her husband, Brian, of Craryville, N.Y., William J. Mahar of Amenia, James M. Mahar and his significant other, Erica Proper, of Amenia, Jennifer M. Mahar of Millerton and Laura Mahar and her significant other, Jason Quiles, of Millerton; a sister, Norma Pinto of Sebastian, Fla.; and 10 grandchildren, Austin and Shane Perkins, Bellah and Landyn Mahar, Henrietta Gaeta and Mia, Cayden and Dante Quiles. 

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mahar was predeceased by a daughter, Mara Anne Mahar in 1973. 

Arrangements are under the care of the Hufcut Funeral Home in Dover Plains. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on June 1 at Immaculate Conception Church in Amenia.
