Victor L. Becker

BARKHAMSTED — Victor L. Becker Sr., 87, of Riverton Road, died unexpectedly on March 13, 2011, at his home. He was the husband of Jean (Morena) Becker. Born in Bridgeport on Feb. 1, 1924, he was the eldest son of the late Emma (Smith) and John Becker and had lived in Barkhamsted for the past seven years. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a letter carrier for the U. S. Postal Service for 41 years. He was also a Navy veteran of World War II. In addition to his wife of 62 years, he leaves two sons, Victor Becker Jr. and his wife, Marion, of Monroe, and Joseph Becker Sr. and his wife, Tina, of Barkhamsted; three daughters, Joann Maruszak and her husband, Allan, of Milford, Maria Klein and her husband, Pieter, of Branford and Paula Griffin of Stratford; two brothers, William Becker and Richard Becker, both of Bridgeport; one sister, Dora Glendinning of Monroe; a half-sister, Mary Trolan; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, John Becker Jr. and James Becker; and six sisters, Kathleen Gregory, Anastasia Buchannan, Terese Baird, Judith DiDonato, Paula Hogan and Eileen Kohler.Funeral services were held on March 17 at St. Joseph Church, Winsted. Water main cleaning in North Canaan

A five-time Grammy winner, Cray has been inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame and earned The Americana Music Awards Lifetime Achievement for Performance. He has played with blues and rock icons including Albert Collins, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Eric Clapton and many more.

Cabaret comes to St. Andrew's in Kent

Music in the Nave will again tap into local talent April 6 at 7 p.m. when its features George Potts in an intimate cabaret concert in the St. Andrew’s Church parish house.

Pott is a well-known figure in the community, both through his presence in the perennially popular Fife ‘n Drum, the restaurant started by his father-in-law, renowned pianist Dolph Trayman, and through his own career as a folk musician.
