LEGAL NOTICE

WINCHESTER SCHOOL READINESS 

GRANT PROGRAM

OPEN BID PROCESS:

Connecticut General Statutes

Sections 10-16o through 10-16r and Sections 10-16t through 10-16u

 Local Request for Proposals (RFP) - Any program that wishes to become a provider of School Readiness services in the Winchester community, must submit a local proposal to the Winchester School Readiness Council for approval.  All local RFP submissions will be reviewed by the Winchester School Readiness Council and scored. 

All School Readiness providers must be willing and able to comply with all legislated mandates. Please see the web site below for copies of the School Readiness General Policies. 

 General Policies – The General Policies (GP) located on the OEC website at: https://www.ct.gov/oec/generalpolicies , click on “School Readiness” to view the latest versions of these policies.

 The School Readiness Grant Application – Programs interested in participating in the open-bid process must contact Ruthann Horvay, Winchester School Readiness Liaison on or before March 31, 2017 for a Request For Proposal application and additional information.  Applicants should apply early in order to complete the application by the due date of April 21, 2017.

School Readiness Quality Enhancement Grant – The Quality Enhancement Grant Program Local Request for Proposal is available for July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2018 fiscal year.  The purpose of Quality Enhancement funding is to assist early care and education programs in addressing quality standards and/or expand comprehensive services for children and families. Applicants must request the Individual Vendor RFP FY18 by March 31, 2017.  Application deadline is April 21, 2017.

 Submission/ Due Date

Eligible applicants must submit an application for July 1, 2017, through June 30, 2018. Grant award letters will be issued annually based on the annual appropriation of the Connecticut Legislature and the grant recipient’s compliance with the program requirements.  Due date for completed grant applications is April 21, 2017.

On Tuesday, April 9, The Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie was the setting for a talk between Elizabeth Lesser and Anne Lamott, with the focus on Lamott’s newest book, “Somehow: Thoughts on Love.”

A best-selling novelist, Lamott shared her thoughts about the book, about life’s learning experiences, as well as laughs with the audience. Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
