For American Mural Project, grants give room to grow

WINSTED — Winsted’s notable old industrial buildings continue to grow into interesting new iterations. One of the most interesting is the American Mural Project (AMP) on Whiting Street, a massive art-and-education undertaking spearheaded by Sharon resident Ellen Griesedieck. 

Griesedieck purchased the former Winsted Hosiery Factory in 2006 and has been hard at work for the past dozen years not only creating the centerpiece mural but also raising funds, raising awareness and raising the roof of the building.
