Planting the roots of environmentalism

NORTH CANAAN — Students at North Canaan Elementary School (NCES) learned about the environment during a combination Earth Day and Arbor Day celebration on Friday, May 4.

Before the celebration, an Alligator Bark Sweetgum tree was planted on the front lawn of the school. The event was held around the tree. Kindergarten and first-grade students gathered around the tree singing the environmental-themed song “Habitat.”

Fifth-grade students then read their original environmental poems.
