CASSIDY HAMMOND : Housatonic student of the week

The Lakeville Journal congratulates the honorees of the student of the week program at Housatonic Valley Regional High School.

Cassidy Hammond is a senior at Housatonic Valley Regional High School. She is enrolled in all AP and honors courses. She is proficient at Spanish and works as an E.L.L. tutor for a new Spanish-speaking student.

She is a varsity soccer, indoor track and outdoor track and field athlete. When she is not in the classroom or on the fields, she is either working at Geer Village as a waitress or volunteering her time with the Special Olympics organization.

She enjoys traveling to visit friends and doing community service in other countries.

Next year, Cassidy plans on attending college. She would like to major in civil engineering with a minor in Spanish. Eventually she hopes to find a job with a company that does work in Third World countries, constructing roads and bridges.

She is a wonderful example of the diversity of our student body and the variety of interests our students have.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
