Zachary S. Hawver

GALLATIN, N.Y. — Zachary S. Hawver, 16, passed away from cystic fibrosis Nov. 15, 2010, at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, N.Y.

He was born in Rhinebeck May 28, 1994, the son of Pamela J. (Deitch) and Scott A. Hawver Sr. of Gallatin.

Zachary was a sophomore at Stissing Mountain High School in Pine Plains.

He was an avid football fan, loved to play kickball and enjoyed playing with magic cards, but most of all he loved to make people laugh.

In addition to his loving parents, survivors include his maternal grandmother, Janet Deitch of Ancramdale; his paternal grandmother, Barbara Hawver of Ancram; four brothers, Terence Deitch of Brooklyn, N.Y., Jonathan Bellows of Ancramdale, Scott A. Hawver Jr. of Gallatin and Dustin Hawver of Gallatin; three sisters, Kelly Mulstay of Saugerties, N.Y., Glenda Hawver of Troy, N.Y., and Elizabeth Hawver of Gallatin; four aunts, Lori Robbins, Karen Smith, Amanda McCagg and Angela Parsons; six uncles, Gregg Deitch, Gary Deitch, Douglas Deitch, Keith “Peanut†Hawver Jr., Perry Hawver and Kevin Hawver; a nephew, Rylie Horn; and many cousins.

He was predeceased by his two grandfathers, Harold Deitch and Keith Hawver Sr.

Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18, at the Peck & Peck Funeral Home, in Pine Plains.

Funeral services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Hudson Valley Chapter, 832 S. Broadway, Tarrytown, NY 10591.

The Cornwall Library unveiled its latest art exhibition, “Live It Up!,” showcasing the work of the late West Cornwall resident Joelle Sander on Saturday, April 13. The twenty works on canvas on display were curated in partnership with the library with the help of her son, Jason Sander, from the collection of paintings she left behind to him. Clearly enamored with nature in all its seasons, Sander, who split time between her home in New York City and her country house in Litchfield County, took inspiration from the distinctive white bark trunks of the area’s many birch trees, the swirling snow of Connecticut’s wintery woods, and even the scenic view of the Audubon in Sharon. The sole painting to depict fauna is a melancholy near-abstract outline of a cow, rootless in a miasma haze of plum and Persian blue paint. Her most prominently displayed painting, “Flowers,” effectively builds up layers of paint so that her flurry of petals takes on a three-dimensional texture in their rough application, reminiscent of another Cornwall artist, Don Bracken.

A Seder to savor in Sheffield

On April 23, Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will host “Feast of Mystics,” a Passover Seder that promises to provide ecstasy for the senses.

“’The Feast of Mystics’ was a title we used for events back when I was running The New Shul,” said Rabbi Zach Fredman of his time at the independent creative community in the West Village in New York City.
