Peter Arthur Lamb

SHARON — Peter Arthur Lamb, 73, of Calkinstown Road died Nov. 12, 2010, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of Mary (Pitcher) Lamb.

Mr. Lamb was born in Sharon on Feb. 22, 1937, the son of the late Kathleen (Whalen) and George Lamb.

He was a 1955 graduate of Housatonic Valley Regional High School, where he excelled as a pitcher in baseball and as a center in basketball. He was voted in as a member of the Housatonic Sports Hall of Fame. He attended the University of Connecticut and later became a licensed land surveyor for many years and served as the assistant district engineer for the state of Connecticut.

He was a former member of the Sharon Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance. He was a member of the Connecticut Association of Land Surveyors, a member of the Connecticut State Employee Association and Sharon Board of Education.

He played the interstate league in Sharon and also coached several Sharon baseball and basketball teams.

In addition to his wife of 52 years, he is survived by his four sons and their wives, Donald and Rachel of Salisbury, Michael and Frances of New Paltz, N.Y., Robert and Kathleen of Kent and Joseph and Christine of Salisbury; two brothers, Arthur Lamb and his wife, Susan, of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and John Lamb and his wife, Claudia, of Sharon; two sisters Mary-Beth Ameen of North Adams, Mass., and Karen Blass and her husband, Steve, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Donald Jr., Jocelyn, David, Carrie, Morgan, Jacob, Shayla and Brogan; and two great-grandchildren, Aiden and Gabriel.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Nov. 16 at St. Bernard’s Church in Sharon. Burial followed at the Sharon Hillside Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sharon Volunteer Ambulance, PO Box 357, Sharon, CT 06069. The Kenny Funeral Home in Sharon has charge of the arrangements.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
