Estelle (Hecht) Wolk

NORTH CANAAN — Estelle (Hecht) Wolk, 83, died Dec.28, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of Stanley Wolk.  

Estelle was born May 15, 1934, in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of the late Rose (Goldberg) and Hyman Hecht.

Estelle was an elementary school teacher and taught both in the Brooklyn, N.Y., school system and at North Canaan Elementary School.  She earned her master’s degree in early childhood education at Brooklyn College and was graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude.     

She enjoyed painting flowers and making handpainted greeting cards. Estelle also loved to compose poetry. She was known for her hospitality during the holidays. 

But it was the love of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren that was her greatest passion.

In addition to her husband, Estelle is survived by her son, Arthur and his wife, Michele, of New Rochelle, N.Y., and their daughters, Emma and Samantha of New York City; her daughter, Debra and her husband, Benjamin Freund of East Canaan and their son, Aaron, and their daughter, Sarah and her husband, Andrew Jack; three great-grandchildren, Avina, Blaze and Roan; and her sister, Marilyn Checkla of North Canaan.

Services were held Dec.31 in the Chapel of Cedar Park Cemetery in Paramus, N.J. Estelle’s family will observe Shiva from Jan. 1 to 4 at the home of Debra and Benjamin Freund,  326 Norfolk Road, East Canaan.

Arrangements are under the care of the Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home in North Canaan.
