Former DOT supervisor : Clerk of works hired, repairs underway

SHARON — The Board of Selectmen has hired a clerk of the works to manage the town’s road repair project.

Gene Parsons of New Milford was approved by the board at a special meeting Wednesday, Oct. 6.

“He is a retired Department of Transportation supervisor who has an engineering degree,†First Selectman Bob Loucks said of Parsons in an interview after the meeting. “He’s very good at what he does. He came to us highly recommended by other Department of Transportation employees.â€

Work began during the last week of September on Swaller Hill Road, West Cornwall Road and White Hollow Road.

The project, which was approved by voters at a special town meeting in late August, will include upgrades and repairs to 40 miles of road.

“The project will continue throughout the fall,†Loucks said. “It will probably stop in late November or early December and restart sometime in the spring.â€

Updates on the progress of the project, including notifications of where construction is taking place, will be posted on the town’s website at sharonct.org.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
