Margaret R. 'Midge' Quick

SHARON — Margaret R. “Midgeâ€ Quick, 62, died Aug. 23, 2010, losing her battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, who died in 1992.

Margaret was born in Indianapolis, Ind., the daughter of Albert H. Paddock and Ruth A. Moritz. She attended Sammamish High School in Washington state and graduated from Dutchess Community College.

She became a world traveler as the daughter of Albert, who set up some of the first computer systems for oil companies in South America and the Middle East. She raised her two children in East Fishkill, N.Y., and later moved to Sharon, where she started a career that eventually led her to be the director of the NorthEast-Millerton Library.

Margaret married Robert F. Quick of Poughkeepsie in 1977 and together they lived in East Fishkill, where they raised their family. After Robert’s death, Margaret moved to Sharon.

Margaret quickly became a pillar of the Millerton community through her hard work and friendships that were made at the library.

She will be missed by her family and many relatives and friends.

She is survived by her children, Anne M. Quick of Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., and Daniel R. Quick of Scranton, Pa.; two grandchildren, Justin Quick and Reilly Quick; her brother, James D. Paddock and his wife, Wendy, of Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the NorthEast-Millerton Library Annex on Saturday, Aug. 28, at 3:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in Margaret’s name to the NorthEast-Millerton Library.

The Kenny Funeral Home in Sharon has charge of all arrangements.

The artistic life of Joelle Sander

"Flowers" by the late artist and writer Joelle Sander.

Cornwall Library

The Cornwall Library unveiled its latest art exhibition, “Live It Up!,” showcasing the work of the late West Cornwall resident Joelle Sander on Saturday, April 13. The twenty works on canvas on display were curated in partnership with the library with the help of her son, Jason Sander, from the collection of paintings she left behind to him. Clearly enamored with nature in all its seasons, Sander, who split time between her home in New York City and her country house in Litchfield County, took inspiration from the distinctive white bark trunks of the area’s many birch trees, the swirling snow of Connecticut’s wintery woods, and even the scenic view of the Audubon in Sharon. The sole painting to depict fauna is a melancholy near-abstract outline of a cow, rootless in a miasma haze of plum and Persian blue paint. Her most prominently displayed painting, “Flowers,” effectively builds up layers of paint so that her flurry of petals takes on a three-dimensional texture in their rough application, reminiscent of another Cornwall artist, Don Bracken.
