Theresa Schell

PINE PLAINS — Theresa Schell, 86, died peacefully on Aug. 26, 2017, at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, N.Y., surrounded by family and friends. 

She was born on April 20, 1931, in Manhattan, the daughter of Mary (Sexton) and Michael Donelan. Theresa was a homemaker who focused on taking care of her loving husband, children and grandchildren.

In her spare time, she loved shopping, painting and gardening. She was also a member of Post 510 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and also was the president of Post 275 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.  Theresa was very proud of her Irish heritage and loved listening to Irish music and dancing.  

On Feb. 3, 1951, Theresa married the love of her life, Joseph T. Schell Sr. Theresa and Joseph were happily married for 66 years. Joseph survives her at home.

In addition, to her loving husband, Theresa is survived by her children, Joseph T. Schell Jr. of Rhinebeck and Catherine Mary Schell of Newburyport, Mass.; three grandchildren, Veronica of Millbrook, Joseph and his wife, Rebecca, of Rhinebeck,  and Matthew of Rhinebeck; and six great-grandchildren, Tyler, Brittany, Madison, Jaedon, Riley  and Connor, whom she loved very much.

She was predeceased by two brothers, William M. Tendy and Michael Donelan; and a sister, Elizabeth Martinez.

Theresa was very proud of her brother William’s accomplishments and spoke of him often.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Sept. 1 from St. Anthony’s Church in Pine Plains with the Rev. Kent Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Pine Plains. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony’s Church, 68 Poplar Ave., Pine Plains, NY.
