Dale Wayne Golden

NORTH CANAAN ­— Dale Wayne Golden, 58, of Church Terrace died June 11, 2010, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. He was the husband of Alexandra M. Golden.

He was born Feb. 18, 1952, in Sharon, the son of Claude H. “Redâ€� Golden and the late Marjorie Golden and brother of Claudia (Golden) Lamb. He was a graduate of Housatonic Valley Regional  High School. He was an equine dentist for nearly 40 years, and began his career taking care of Secretariat’s teeth.

An avid gun enthusiast, Dale spent much of his free time hunting and trap shooting at the Hartford Gun Club. He was an active member of his community, serving as a 32nd degree Mason out of the Hamilton & Housatonic lodge.

Additionally, Dale worked closely with many people in several local chapters of Alcoholics Anonymous. He also spent time serving on the vestry at Christ Church Episcopal in North Canaan, acting as a representative to the archdiocese in Hartford. More recently, Dale served as a member of the Time Out Foundation Board of Directors.

In addition to his wife,  Alexandra, and his father and sister, he is survived by his daughters, Naomi (Golden) Chambers and Tanya (Golden) Hopkins; his son, C. Hunter Golden; and a granddaughter, Abigail Madieline Golden.

Calling hours will be Friday, June 18, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Kenny Funeral Home in Sharon. Funeral services will be celebrated Saturday, June 19, at 10 a.m. at the Sharon United Methodist Church with burial at the Ellsworth Cemetery in Sharon following the service.

The Cornwall Library unveiled its latest art exhibition, “Live It Up!,” showcasing the work of the late West Cornwall resident Joelle Sander on Saturday, April 13. The twenty works on canvas on display were curated in partnership with the library with the help of her son, Jason Sander, from the collection of paintings she left behind to him. Clearly enamored with nature in all its seasons, Sander, who split time between her home in New York City and her country house in Litchfield County, took inspiration from the distinctive white bark trunks of the area’s many birch trees, the swirling snow of Connecticut’s wintery woods, and even the scenic view of the Audubon in Sharon. The sole painting to depict fauna is a melancholy near-abstract outline of a cow, rootless in a miasma haze of plum and Persian blue paint. Her most prominently displayed painting, “Flowers,” effectively builds up layers of paint so that her flurry of petals takes on a three-dimensional texture in their rough application, reminiscent of another Cornwall artist, Don Bracken.

A Seder to savor in Sheffield

On April 23, Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will host “Feast of Mystics,” a Passover Seder that promises to provide ecstasy for the senses.

“’The Feast of Mystics’ was a title we used for events back when I was running The New Shul,” said Rabbi Zach Fredman of his time at the independent creative community in the West Village in New York City.
