Stolen safe is recovered

SALISBURY — A safe stolen over Memorial Day weekend from the Salisbury Garden Center was found early this week in Sharon.

The safe turned up in a stream on Stone House Road, according to state police at the Troop B Barracks in North Canaan, and was found by members of the Sharon town crew.

The robbery occurred sometime during the night of May 30-31. It was a floor safe containing cash and seeds.

The safe was battered and broken when it was found. The money had been removed but the seeds were intact.

No arrests have been made yet.

State police believe this incident is related to an attempted burglary at the Collins Diner in North Canaan that same night; and to a burglary at the Great Wall restaurant in North Canaan. A thief or thieves entered an open window at the restaurant and stole the cash register. The cash register has not been recovered.

The incident remains under investigation.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
