Janet (Sherwood) Parliman

PINE PLAINS — Janet S. Parliman, 79, passed away June 3, 2010, at Livingston Hills Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born Aug. 14, 1930, in Pine Plains, the daughter of the late Thelma (Arnold) and Henry D. Sherwood.

Mrs. Parliman worked in the cafeteria for the Pine Plains Central School District.

Janet was a 66-year Grange member who joined Pine Plains Grange No. 803 in 1944. She was obligated by her father, who was then serving as master of the New York State Grange. She served as Master of Pine Plains Grange No. 803 for several years until it consolidated with Stanford Grange No. 808. There, she served in the office of Pomona from 2006 to 2009. She was a member of Dutchess County Pomona Grange No. 32 and served as chairman of the Committee of Women’s Activities in 1981 and 1996. She also served as Pomona Grange master from 1988 to 1990.  As a member of the New York State Grange, she held the office of state Ceres from 1991  to 1993. She was also a member of the National Grange.

Mrs. Parliman was also a life- long member of the Pine Plains United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Willet “Bill†Parliman of Pine Plains; a stepson, Vincent Parliman of Pine Plains; a sister, Phyllis Tillett of Westerville, Ohio; two stepgrandsons, Benjamin and Christopher; a cousin, Alma Bowman of Red Hook; a nephew, David Tillett of Westerville; and a niece, Diana Tillett of Columbus, Ohio.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, June 13, at 4 p.m.,  from the Pine Plains United Methodist Church, the Rev. Gregory Higgins officiating.Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Stanford Grange No. 808, Stanfordville, NY 12581.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
