Maplebrook teacher Gerardo Amarillas naturalized as U.S. citizen

AMENIA — For teacher Gerardo Amarillas of Maplebrook School, Friday, Aug. 4, marked the official beginning of his life as a naturalized citizen of the United States of America. 

Amarillas first arrived in the United States in 2001 from the Philippines and immersed himself in the newfound culture by applying for a variety of jobs. However, because he didn’t have proper documentation at the time, troubles arose in his search.
