Pine Plains windmills past Webutuck softball

WEBUTUCK — Stissing Mountain High School softball defeated Webutuck High School 10-2 in the season opener Thursday, April 8.

It was a junior varsity game for Stissing Mountain, but unlike the Bombers, Webutuck has no varsity team. All of the Warriors are freshman and sophomores, and varsity teams are traditionally made up of juniors and seniors.

All girls returned from last year, Webutuck coach Ann Sartori said, along with five newcomers. This is Sartori’s third season coaching, her second with the Webutuck JV team.

Webutuck was 6-8 last year and Sartori said the focus this year will be building upon last year’s strengths.

“Pride is our word this year, she said. “Pride in ourselves, pride in our team, our school and our opponents. We’ve based our whole season on it.

There are plenty of games left for the girls to fine-tune their skills, and Sartori said Webutuck was still getting the season-opener-jitters out of their system.

“All the girls are excited, Sartori said. “We’re ready to go and they’re happy to be there.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
