Winter dinner getting a different seasoning

AMENIA — This year’s Winter Dinner, set for Feb. 6 by the Amenia Fire Company, will be getting a little boost from a veteran chef, Vinny Iannacone of Sharon, Conn.

In the past, the fire company has held a winter chicken barbecue, but things are spicing up a little differently this year with some professional help.

Saturday, Feb. 6, the firehouse will be filled with the smell of herb chicken and steak, giving attendees the advantage of variety. Complete with roast potatoes, carrots, broccoli, spring salad, homemade rolls and desserts, it’s going to be difficult for residents and supporters of the fire department to say no to, especially given the cause.

Iannacone has done several other dinners for the department, including its first comedy show a few months ago (a second is planned for the end of this month). He graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and has been so taken with the Amenia Fire Company that he’s turned in his application to be an official member of the company.

“I’ve been working [in town] for about six years now and I’ve gotten to know a lot of people in the area, the chef said. “It’s a good thing to be helping the community.

Dinner will be from 4 to 7 p.m., with take-outs available. A chicken dinner will cost $11, a steak dinner $12 and a combination meal will be $15. Seniors and children under 12 will receive a $1 discount, and those under 5 eat free. Tickets will be available at the door.

“It’s a nice menu, and we’re hoping people come out for some good food and to support the department, said Fire Captain Andy Murphy.
