NORTH CANAAN — It was a low-tech situation in the upstairs room at the Douglas Library in North Canaan on Saturday, March 25, as Olivia Montoya coached a group of children — and a few adults — through the process of creating “zines.”

What’s a zine?

Montoya, a North Canaan resident who is taking a yearlong leave from Stanford University, defines a zine as “a self-published mini magazine that anyone can make.”
