Press release for George Phillips talk

The Amenia Historical Society is proudly presenting a program highlighting the life of a local citizen , George Phillips.
Local folk who experienced what has been called “The Great Depression” of the 1930s are becoming fewer. Firsthand descriptions of their life can help younger generations understand the life and rigors of that time in the nation’s history.
The opportunity to hear first hand from veterans of World War II is also becoming rare as we pass the seventieth anniversary of the end of that great conflict. Some of bloodiest battles of our country’s military history occurred just before the war ended. The Battle of the Bulge was the costliest. There were one million combatants in that death struggle. There were 67,000 American casualties.
George with his recollections, images and displays will tell how he participated in these events in our nation’s history and returned to a life in his hometown.
The presentation will be at the Amenia Town Hall at 2:00 PM on Sunday the 23rd of April, 2017
